About Rayair Automation

Our Story

A Vision for the Future

In the early 1980s, when cheap labour was still the cornerstone of Maltese industry, Ray Schembri had the foresight to recognize that automation would soon be essential for long-term success. In 1983, with the support of Mr. Joe Attard, who provided workshop premises, Rayair Automation was officially established.

The Early Years

Initially, Rayair focused on producing jigs and fixtures, conveyors, and semi-automatic machinery, primarily using pneumatic and hardwired logic systems. From the start, the company’s mission was clear: to deliver customised solutions that maximised the benefits of process automation.

Growth Through Innovation

As the decade progressed, automation became more sophisticated. With evolving design techniques, Rayair’s solutions became increasingly advanced — and the results began to speak for themselves.

In 1991, RAYAIR successfully designed and commissioned a TV assembly and testing line for Seleco. This project marked a significant milestone, setting a new benchmark for automation in Maltese industry.

Expanding Horizons

Driven by a commitment to delivering world-class automation, 1993 saw RAYAIR embark on a series of ambitious projects across various sectors. These included collaborations in:

  • Health & Cosmetics
  • Medical & Pharmaceutical
  • Agriculture & Food
  • Fabrics & Plastics
  • Electrical & Electronics
  • Automotive Industry
Over 40 years of expierience in simplifing and automating production processes.

Milestones

Throughout, Rayair kept investing in the latest technologies to design, built and commission custom, fully automated production lines. Key milestones include:

  • 1996: Introduction of CNC machining
  • 1998: Launch of a high-speed, fully flexible automation system using servo drives.
  • 2000: Implementation of CAD-CAM technologies
  • 2001: Release of a second-generation system, capable of handling high-volume, multi-process assemblies.
  • 2005: Integration of touchscreen control systems and vision inspection technology, enhancing flexibility and quality assurance.
  • 2008: Rayair invested in more advanced 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machinery to enhance productivity and enable the production of high-precision components.
  • 2010: Introduction of SCARA and 6-Axis Robotic arms.
  • 2019: Rayair expanded its premises to 600 square meters of workshop area and 300 square meters of office space to support its growth ambitions and to accommodate larger projects.
